Generations of quail take refuge around the base of this dramatic agave - a very common scene in the southwest and west. The plant's rosette grows very slowly and in its final season, sends up a tall stem that produces a beautiful abundant set of blooms. After the bloom fades, the parent plant dies. Luckily, new babies take root around the original rosette creating the next generation.
