Agave are one of my favorite desert plants to paint. The architectural shapes and the way the shadows and light play on the leaves makes for unique visual interest. In my creative process, I like to experiment with varying palettes and asymmetrical cropping in my compositions to breathe new energy into a familiar subject. This giant blue agave and its companion, Desert Blues I, are examples of this technique.
