The prickly pear is one of the most common in the cactus in the world. Most have yellow, orange or red blooms and are a welcome hit of color. This particular variety – the purple prickly pear – usually wins the race in terms of being the first variety to bloom every spring. It features dramatic light pink to fuchsia blooms and the supporting pads have a bluish-purple tint to them. They are one of my favorites!
